This year, Audi has shifted gears to become a serious forerunner in technology. All eyes are on the Virtual Cockpit, which first appeared in the 2017 Q7, A4 and the TT. This is the first major change Audi has made in dash configuration. It includes a completely new look and feel, and an electronic interface allows for more customized driver integration.

The new Virtual Cockpit encompasses three quarters of the front dash, with three separate display areas. It provides at-a-glance real time information, such as vehicle performance, music, personal contacts, and Audi’s onboard navigation system. It includes a head-up display, which can be seen at night and while keeping eyes on the road. It projects the most important information on the front windshield.

As an integral part of the Audi Multi-Media Interface (MMI), the Virtual Cockpit allows the driver to seamlessly transition between two available modes: Classic and Infotainment. While cruising in Classic mode the driver has a crystal clear view of a fully digital instrument. The 12.3-inch colour display shows a traditional looking speedometer and tachometer. The high contrast display is so clear, it’s hard to believe it’s a digital display.

The Virtual Cockpit can be controlled from two buttons located on the steering wheel. Switch from driver stats to audio media and navigation without ever letting go of the multifunctional steering wheel. Switch over to the Infotainment mode and seamlessly transition to a display loaded with your multimedia information, your contact list, navigation centre and even fuel economy.

So far, Audi’s Virtual Cockpit is available in the 2016 Audi TT, 2017 Audi Q7,

and the 2017 Audi A4.If you’re waiting to get your hands on the automotive world’s most advanced driver display, Audi will be making it available in all of the new models as they roll off the line over the next few years.
