This spring, warmer weather won’t be the only thing drivers in Kitchener and Waterloo can rejoice about.

Debuting at the Detroit Auto Show last month, the all-new 2018 Audi SQ5 is set to arrive sometime this spring, bringing with it the familiar luxury, sophistication and innovation that Audi is known for.

This sporty crossover will be the newest addition to the Audi Q5 family and comes packed with a suite of performance features, advanced technology and small details that give it a major advantage over some of its toughest competitors.

Here’s what you need to know about the 2018 Audi SQ5 before it lands at our dealership:

It’s All In the Details

Audi stole the spotlight at the Detroit Auto Show while unveiling its plans for the new SQ5. While some brand opt to adjust only a few small details, Audi takes a different approach.

The 2018 Audi SQ5 will feature an all-new 3.0L turbocharged V-6 engine that delivers an impressive 354 horsepower and 369 pounds-feet of torque. The engine can go zero to sixty in just five seconds! Eight-speed automatic transmission is paired with the engine, which further leads to it striking handling abilities.

Audi’s standard Quattro all-wheel drive will be implemented to the new SQ5, which ultimately assists the changes made to the model’s front and rear suspension. The five-link front suspension lets the driver feel more balanced and in control, especially when driving in compromising conditions, or uneven terrain. The front suspension ultimately enhances steering wheel response, thanks to its unique placement at the front wheel centres. The 2018 SQ5 provides a steering ratio that automatically adjusts based on how fast or slow you are driving–during high speeds, active steering improves straight-line stability. If you’re driving more slowly, a more direct steering ratio is used to help increase steering response for easy maneuvering.

Totally Redesigned For 2018

The Audi Q5 has been on the Canadian market since 2009, but since then, changes to its exterior have been tame. That all changed this year, and Canadians can expect a truly versatile crossover that’s as sporty as it is luxurious.

While the overall size of the vehicle is relatively the same, (just 34 millimetres longer) the 2018 Audi SQ5 has been built on a modified MLB platform with an increased wheelbase of twelve millimetres. The sculpted hood adds to its ability to slice through the air with unprecedented ease. Apart from the sleek and sporty lines on the exterior, the major changes take place on the inside.

The new SQ5 gains additional cargo space, bringing it up to 550 litres. As one of the longest wheelbases in its class, the new SQ5 offers extreme versatility when it comes to interior space. A special foot-operated release makes loading and unloading the trunk easier than ever before, and increased knee and headroom means that five passengers can ride comfortably in style. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster panel lets you engage in everything from communications, to navigation and entertainment, all at your fingertips.

Perhaps one of the biggest and most important changes to the 2018 Audi SQ5 is the addition of a brand new Ultra Quattro AWD system. In normal driving conditions, your Audin will allocate all of its power to the front wheels using two clutches–the first, an electronically controlled clutch mounted behind the transmission which disengages the prop shaft and a second clutch which opens up in the rear differential, which gives freedom to the rear wheels and results in full front-wheel drive.
